Open Call for Papers: Special Issue of Statsvetenskaplig tidskrift on political communication in the 2018 national Swedish election

News: Feb 26, 2018

Special Issue of Statsvetenskaplig tidskrift
Against the background of changes that have taken place since the last national election, political communication during the 2018 election offers an interesting case for systematic, empirical studies. The state of knowledge is uncertain both in terms of basic descriptions of how parties, media and voters act and orient themselves in the new media environment, and in terms of the applicability and explanatory power of established theories when it comes to understanding and explaining political communication during Swedish election campaigns facing the 2020s. There is an urgent need for methodological and theoretical developments, but also for testing different assumptions about Swedish political communication that have their basis either in political communication in other countries or in the public debate.

Against this background, we hereby issue an open call for papers for a Special Issue of Statsvetenskaplig Tidskrift focusing on political communication during the 2018 election campaign. We welcome empirically based papers addressing, among other things, how political actors communicate during election campaigns, how news media cover election campaigns, how citizens use different types of traditional or alternative media or information sources, different types of media and campaign effects, and the dynamics of the relationship between political actors, media, and citizens.

This Special Issue will be edited by Henrik Ekengren Oscarsson and Jesper Strömbäck. All manuscripts will be subject to blind peer review. The ambition is to publish the Special Issue in May, 2019. It will then be published as open access and presented at a webinar. For those interested in contributing to this Special Issue, please see the instructions below:

Deadline for abstract (max 400 words): 1 june 2018
Deadline for submission of manuscripts: 14 January 2019
Maximum lenght including blanks: 45 000 characters
Language: English

The abstract should include information about both what theory or theories will be employed or tested and what empirical data will be used. For more instructions about format, reference style, etc., please see the website of Statsvetenskaplig Tidskrift: https://statsvetenskapligtidskrift.org/.
